Positive thinking and affirmations are good tools but they do not necessarily address those underlying belief systems that limit significant change. Affirmations in Motion (A.I.M.) is a body mind approach to creating desired change using affirmations and movement together. By stimulating collaboration between the conscious and unconscious parts of our mind, it releases blockages that prevent us from doing what we say we want to do, and integrates new thoughts and habits into our daily practice.
A.I.M. combines simple movement with positive statements to create a bridge between our chosen goals and the unconscious beliefs that attempt to secure safety by maintaining the status quo. With this connective bridge, we can rewrite old programs and begin new "conversations for change". A personalized A.I.M. routine takes about two minutes or less per day to practice. It can be designed for general well being or constructed to target specific goals such as achieving your desired weight or success in business. It is a powerful tool in any program for change.
I wrote my first A.I.M. during a time of major transition in my life. Having just moved back to Florida after more than twenty years in California, I was feeling a bit lost and isolated, and unsure what direction to take. Early one morning at the beach as I watched the waves break and the sun climb the sky the following thoughts and movements came together for me:
I open my heart (as you say the words, step your feet apart and open arms wide)
I embrace the world (as you say the words, bring hands towards your chest, gathering energy into yourself)
I reach for the stars (stretching and reaching upward as if you were picking cherries, alternating right and left sides)
And I lovingly let go of what I no longer need (slowly bending forward and down, rolling hands over each other on the way down)
Doing this short exercise every morning created an internal shift for me that allowed me to find my path again. Very simple, very little effort, very powerful. Feel free to use my affirmation in motion, or write one of your own. Contact me if you would like to collaborate and develop a personal A.I.M. that is specific to your goals.
