Conversations For Change

Frequently Asked Questions

Conversations For Change Email Program

1.Why Conversations For Change? We are constantly engaged in conversation with ourselves and others that promote change or argue for the status quo. Some of our most powerful conversations are inside our heads and many of them are beyond our conscious awareness. Writing is a healing experience that allows us to notice our own process. This is an opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings in writing and reconstruct our "conversations for no change" to accomplish our intentions and increase self-knowledge.

2.What do I write about? You can use this program in a variety of ways. Write as if it were your journal, to record and explore your experiences and responses. Or you can ask questions and focus upon a specific event or life pattern that you find challenging. Use it to identify your goals, note your progress, and document and celebrate your successes. Or, you can simply write me about your intentions for this work and I will offer suggestions as to how to begin.

3.What about confidentiality? Because this is a personal growth program and not psychotherapy, there are no laws that regulate confidentiality. As your personal growth coach, I will make every effort to safeguard your confidentiality. All group mailings (i.e., the Weekly Tidbit, updates or notices) will be done with blind copies so the recipients do not see each other's addresses. But remember that we are using the Internet and our emails travel through cyberspace and there is no true confidentiality in cyberspace.

4.What is a Weekly Tidbit? Tidbits are short stories, thoughts, and ideas that are mailed to subscribers on a weekly basis. You can always choose to opt out of this service if your mailbox is too full.

5.How is CFC different from psychotherapy? Conversations For Change is a personal growth coaching program that emphasizes the healing power of writing. The focus is on making progress at your chosen goals in the here and now, rather than exploration of underlying issues or motivations. See the section on "The Difference Between Coaching and Therapy" for further information.

6.What if I need to deal with underlying issues in order to make progress? If it appears that you would benefit from inner work beyond the scope of this program, I will suggest that you consult a psychotherapist. Sometimes our work will continue as an adjunct to your therapy. In some situations our work will be put on hold. In such cases, I recommend that you discuss this with your psychotherapist in order to determine your best interest.

7.Can I change the frequency of our mailings if I decide I need more or less time? We can change your subscription to accommodate your needs at any time.

8.How fast can I expect a response? My intention is to respond within 36 hours, barring unforeseen circumstances such as hurricanes, power outages, etc. If you have a regular appointment schedule, you are most likely to have your reply by the following morning.

9.How much does it cost and how do I pay for my subscription? Fees are $40 for each half hour. Subscriptions can be for whatever frequency best suits your needs: monthly, every other week, weekly, or twice a week. Fees may be paid by check or money order and payments are due at the start of each month for that month of service.

10.How do I start? Email me at convers4change@aol.com to request your free initial consultation. Let me know your intention for this work or ask questions about the program, as described in FAQ #2 above.

Conversations For Change Phone Coaching

1.Why 'Conversations For Change'? We are constantly engaged in conversation with ourselves and others that promote change or argue for the status quo. Some of our most powerful conversations are inside our heads and many of them are beyond our conscious awareness. Coaching provides the opportunity to identify what keeps us from accomplishing our desired goals and develop strategies to make those goals reality.

2.What do I talk about? If you are clear about a specific goal that you want to accomplish, let's start with that. Or you can tell me about a specific event or life pattern that you find challenging. Together we will identify your goals, note your progress, and celebrate your successes.

3.What about confidentiality? Because this is a personal growth coaching program and not psychotherapy, there are no laws that regulate confidentiality. As your personal growth coach, what you tell me is strictly between you and I, and will not be disclosed by me unless you sign a written release.

4. How is this different from psychotherapy?Conversations For Change is a personal growth coaching program that focuses on making progress at your chosen goals in the here and now, rather than exploration of underlying issues or motivations. See the section on "The Difference Between Coaching and Therapy" for further information.(click here)

5.What if I need to deal with underlying issues in order to make progress? If it appears that you would benefit from inner work beyond the scope of this program, I will suggest that you obtain psychotherapy services. Sometimes our work may continue as an adjunct to your therapy. In other situations our work will be put on hold. In such cases, I recommend that you discuss this with your psychotherapist in order to determine your best interest. If you are a California resident and wish to continue towork with me, we have the option of switching to a psychotherapy model, as I am licensed as a psychotherapist in that state.

6.What are your qualifications for being a coach? For 13 years I practiced as a licensed psychotherapist in northern California. The most rewarding part of that work was with clients who had moved beyond crisis and were ready to focus on personal growth issues. Coaching allows me to do what I enjoy the most: helping motivated people attain desired change and accomplish their goals. For additional information see "About Charly". (click here)

7.How often do we talk? We can schedule your appointments to accommodate your needs. Most people find weekly sessions to be the most productive. If you would prefer biweekly or monthly sessions, that can be arranged as well. Sessions last approximately 30 to 60 minutes and longer sessions can be arranged if needed. I request 24 hour notice of cancellation or rescheduling. Missed appointment or late cancellations will be billed at half the standard fee.

8.What is the standard fee? Sessions are $40 for half an hour and $80 for a full hour. In order to maximize our time, I suggest you take a few minutes prior to each conversation to review your progress and note questions or concerns.

9.How do I pay for sessions? Sessions may be paid by check or money order. Payment needs to be received at the time of service, so mail your check for your first appointment immediately following your initial free consultation.

10.How do I start? Email me at convers4change@aol.com with a couple of dates and times that would work as appointment times for you. I will choose one and send you a phone number. Most coaching is done on the telephone as the majority of my clients live some distance away. There is no charge for the first session and there is no obligation if you decide not to continue with CFC.

For any questions not addressed in these FAQS, please send an email to convers4change@aol.com

May you be well.
